Longtime and respected Kentucky attorney J. Guthrie True recently was selected as a member of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (IATL), a prestigious legal association with members in nearly 40 countries.

The IATL inducted Mr. True – a founder of True Guarnieri Ayer, LLP in Frankfort – into its organization on Oct. 15 at the group’s annual meeting in New Orleans. Mr. True becomes only 10th Kentucky attorney to join this elite group of trial attorneys.

Members throughout the world

In choosing its members, the IATL seeks attorneys known and respected for their legal excellence and have demonstrated success in court and jury trials, and appeals court. The attorneys are known for their distinction in civil and criminal cases, representing plaintiffs and defendants alike.

Founded in 1954, the Minnesota-based IATL is an international legal trade association that limits its members to 500 active U.S. trial attorneys and more than 150 members from almost 40 other countries.

Focus on white collar criminal defense

A Kentucky native, Mr. True earned his law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law and has practiced law for nearly 40 years.

Focused on white collar criminal defense, True represents and defends companies and people in federal and state courts. He has guided clients in cases related to health care fraud, campaign finance and tax-related matters. His cases include those related to civil and personal injury litigation and product liability.

Throughout his career, Mr. True represented clients in more than 100 civil cases heard before a jury. His skills and experience have led to many acquittals and dismissals representing clients in criminal defense cases, multi-million-dollar recoveries in personal injury cases and victories in cases that have gone to appeal.
