Driving while under the influence of alcohol is irresponsible, reckless and one of the most dangerous things a person can do. Those who get behind the wheel while intoxicated not only endanger themselves, but they put all others around them at risk. Unfortunately, crashes caused by drunk drivers are one of the leading causes of personal injury and death in Kentucky and across the United States.
A tragic accident in Louisville claimed the life of a University of Kentucky student and left a driver facing serious charges. The accident happened during the overnight hours on LaGrange Road near North Hurstbourne Parkway. According to reports, a sedan traveling in the wrong lanes slammed into a car head-on. Authorities said all three occupants of the car were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, one of the passengers died a short time later at the hospital.
Reportedly, the person who died was a sophomore at the University of Kentucky. Reports said the driver of the sedan was not injured and admitted to police that he had consumed alcoholic drinks prior to the crash. After failing sobriety tests, police said the driver was arrested and charged with DUI, among other serious charges.
Police forces across the state of Kentucky do a great job of keeping drunk drivers off the road. However, there will always be those who choose to endanger others and get behind the wheel while intoxicated. Those in Kentucky who have suffered personal injury or loss due to negligence in an accident reserve the right to take legal action and contact a skilled attorney. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in much-needed and deserved compensation to help with medical expenses and ease the pain and suffering associated with an unfortunate accident.
