Speed a possible factor in car accident that took 3 lives

On Behalf of | Oct 6, 2020 | Personal Injury |

A serious car accident can change a family in an instant.

One family here in North Carolina has been irreparably changed after a recent car accident took the life of a mother and two children. What makes this event all the more tragic is the driver blamed for the collision claims he cannot clearly remember what occurred. His uncertainty, however, doesn’t change the fact that three lives have been taken.

Reviewing the report

According to authorities, the crash occurred on a state route. A minivan was said to have stopped at a traffic light behind a pickup truck. Police say a second truck struck the minivan from behind, which caused the van to push into the first truck. Reports further state the van struck the side of a semi-truck and started on fire. Witnesses say the fire was too strong for them to assist the people in the minivan.

The woman driving the van and her two children died as a result of the crash. The man driving the second pickup truck is also receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital. Police say dashboard camera footage from nearby vehicles shows the man ran another red light just before coming into contact with the minivan and failed to brake before the impact. Witnesses also claim they saw the man driving at a high rate of speed before the crash. Police charged the truck driver with three counts of reckless homicide.

A car accident like this one that takes multiple lives from the same family can devastate an entire community. It is understandable the loved ones of the victims may feel the need to seek justice in any way available, regardless of the outcome of any criminal charges.

Here in North Carolina, a family may want to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit as a means of holding those responsible accountable with the help of a skilled attorney.
