Potential for product liability claim in recall of 4-drawer chest

On Behalf of | Jun 2, 2020 | Personal Injury |

Consumers trust that when they purchase a product on the market, it is perfectly safe for them to use. This may especially be the case when purchasing from high-profile retailers like Walmart or Amazon.

However, this is not the case as many products that pose a danger to people make it into stores every year. Injuries from defective products may result in product liability claims as victims try to manage the significant expenses that may be associated.

Kentucky families may want to check to ensure they have not recently purchased a chest of drawers that consumer safety groups say may pose a tip and fall danger to small children.

The chest in question is tall with four drawers. The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall after it found that the chest could tip over without properly being secured to the wall.  More than 26,000 of the chests have been sold by popular retailers like Home Depot, Walmart and Overstock.

Anyone who purchased the chest has been advised to stop using it unless it has been secured safely to the wall. They can either request an anti-tip anchoring kit or return it to the retailer from which they purchased it. So far, no injuries have been reported in connection with the chest tipping over, but the manufacturer worries that children could be trapped or hurt if it falls, possibly causing injury or even death.

Though this product may have been recalled in time before anyone was hurt, it only shows how easy it is for a dangerous product to find its way into a consumer’s home.

Those here in Kentucky who have been hurt by a defective product may want to file a products liability claim as a means of securing monetary damages that could be used to cover medical care and other costs. An attorney with experience in handling personal injury claims may be the best chance a family has at receiving justice.
