Honda issues massive ROV recall

On Behalf of | Nov 17, 2018 | Personal Injury |

Off-roading is a very popular activity here in Kentucky, and the Commonwealth has thousands of miles of trails, parks and campgrounds for tourists and locals alike. People use recreational off-road vehicles (ROVs) to get to hunting blinds all over the state, and for otherwise getting out and enjoying nature. These vehicles are smaller and more versatile than conventional vehicles, making them easier to maneuver in hilly or muddy terrain and thus perfect for taking to the great outdoors.

ROV owners need to be aware of a massive recall recently issued by American Honda Motor Company of Torrance, California, however. The recalled vehicles have an incorrectly installed throttle body that could ignite, causing fires and posing a burn risk. The company has already received several fire reports, hence the reason behind the recall. Affected owners should take their ROV to a licensed dealership for repairs.

The recall involves all of model years 2016 and 2017 – and some of the 2018 model year – Honda Pioneer 1000 side-by-sides, a total of nearly 60,000 of them. These vehicles came in various colors, including blue, green, red, gray and yellow. They have the word “Honda” emblazoned on the front, sides and rear, and the Pioneer 1000 model description is prominently displayed as well.

This is the second major recall of Pioneer 1000 model ROVs this year. In May, Honda issued a repair recall of 65,000 Pioneer 1000 ROVs because of muffler overheating issues. The company received dozens of reports of melting plastic muffler shields and fires caused by overheated mufflers prior to that recall.

When ROVs like these fail, the potential for injury is high. If you or someone else was hurt in an accident caused by a faulty ROV, an experienced personal injury attorney can help.
